Journal! Write everything down. Share your most intimate thoughts with yourself. We have included a Journal book to help you throughout your journey. In it includes questions to ask your doctors and space to share you most deepest thoughts.
Pray! Talk to your God! Research your bible of choice for strength and support. When Kimbo began with her Breast Cancer Journey she received a letter from her girl friends mother. She was asked to read Romans 10:9-10-13 and Phillippians 4:13... After that it made this Breast Cancer journey possible.
Buy an informative book. A book you can reference when you have questions. Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book helped Kimbo a lot. It answered the many questions you will have on your journey. The book Janelle found helpful was Breast Cancer for Dummy’s.
Do not dwell! Try to stay positive. You need to find good in what you are going through. It’s hard, but it’s there and it’s possible. We have found much joy and happiness talking to new survivors and keeping them positive.
Make the best of each and every day! Do not feel sorry for yourself, it makes things worse. If you are down in the dumps force yourself to do something that would cheer you up. Sitting home, feeling bad only gives you time to think of the negative going on in your life right now.
Feel comfortable with your doctors, Love them! They will be your best friend by the time you end your journey. (Kimbo went to Dr. West at the Breast Care Center in Orange and Janelle went to the Joyce Kieffer Breast Center in Santa Monica)
You can be sad but don't let the sadness take over you life. Do your best to keep moving forward.
Concentrate on ONE step and ONE day at a time. DO NOT “FUTURE TRIP” ... Do not look to the future, you have no idea what the future has in store for you, you are just wasting energy you need to heal.
Let your family and friends help you. We had meals delivered for a month and always on the first two days of chemo, that was awesome! Can you imagine not cooking for over month! Let your family and friends do the cooking for you.
Be open with your family and friends. Let them be apart of your journey, don’t shut them out and most of all don't go at this alone, you need all the support you can get.!
Educate yourself.... Study, Study, Study... Read, Read, Read. Learn every possible thing you can about breast cancer. Research everything you don't understand. Learn about the drugs they want you to take, the surgeries you must go through, research all your options. Talk to others who have experienced your battle. Get as many opinions as you can FROM ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE TAKEN YOUR JOURNEY... then make your own decisions, but... Consider all you have been given in your research.
Get a hobby! Find something to do that is going to keep your mind busy with productive things.
